The Catholic Youth Organization

The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) is a part of the comprehensive youth ministry programs for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.  Through the vehicles of athletics, camp programs and enrichment activities, CYO provides youth with opportunities to develop morally, spiritually, mentally, physically and socially.  The CYO is jointly sponsored and administrated by the parishes, and the CYO Office.  The objective for all CYO programs and activities is to be well organized, uniform in philosophy, properly supervised and based upon Catholic values and principals.

As with any ministry to young people in the Catholic Church, a detailed description of comprehensive youth ministry, and goals of the programs can be found in “Renewing the Vision:  A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry”This document first written as A Vision of Youth Ministry in 1976 by the Department of Education.  The United States Catholic Conference issued a new vision for ministry with young people that blended the best of all past efforts with emerging ideas from Catholic leaders across the country.  Simply put in the vision papers, "Youth Ministry is the response of the Christian community to the needs of young people, and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth with the larger community".
